Q: Why blood in pleural fluid does not clot?

Answer: Hemorrhage within the pleural space generally does not clot due to 3 reasons

1. mechanical defibrination (movement of lungs)
2. activation of fibrinolytic mechanisms
3. Also, platelets disappears within hours following hemorrhage
